As a child growing up in Arizona I remember hearing often on evening news reports about children drowning in backyard pools. In 2024 alone, 36 children died from drowning in Arizona.
Wave is a mission-driven company my brothers and I founded during covid to take on the problem. It seemed that existing pool alarms were either ineffective, or too expensive for the masses to buy. So we invented one that would connect over WiFi to a user's phone and be Smart Home compatible. As a bonus, we made it compatible to be installed in typical chlorine floaters. We wanted it to be as easy of a decision as possible to put one in your pool.
This project taught me 3D modeling, designing for injection molding, IoT architecture, app development, AWS backend management, and more. But perhaps the most important lesson I learned from this project is that it is extremely difficult to get people to care about what you care about. And marketing is everything.
